The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is founded on strong and stable footings based on the faith in Allah, the workings of the Holy Book (The Quran), and the teachings (Sunnah) of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him); furthermore the development of the Kingdom has taken a leap forward telescoping time and allowing the country to attain within a few decades its outstanding position in the world today. In 1351 H (1932), in agreement with the desire of his loyal people King Abdel Aziz established a strong and large country consisting of 80 % of the Arabian Peninsula, King Abdul Aziz named it the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, after he unified the country, gathered its people and spread security, justice and peace in its vast territory. The first day of Libra (corresponding to the 23rd of September of every year) is the national day of this young nation.


  On that day the Kingdom celebrates in memory of its late great founder. King Abdel Aziz’s is approach is only a continuation of the approach adopted by the first Saudi state and then the second Saudi state, which started in the middle of eighteenth country (Gregorian Calendar) following an agreement of Imam Mohammed Ibn Saudi (Prince of Darey’ah at that time) with the Islamic reformer / Shaikh Mohammed Ibn AbdelWahab to work together to spread and to purify Islam in its tolerant principles from the heresies and superstitions attached to it due to centuries of ignorance and backwardness.


  The first fruit of this era arbitration by Allah’s law, unifying the people from the tribes and also unifying the regions, that were at war consolidated the state of righteousness that has prevailed ever since and that has extended beyond the Arabian Peninsula. After a period of peace, the state was exposed to foreign interference and civil war which ruined it and returned it to its previous state. Abdul Aziz, who settled with his father in Kuwait, was determined to restore the nation of his forefathers whatever the sacrifices.


  On 5th Shawwal 1319 H (15.1.1902) he managed to open and restore Riyadh, then rushed to unify the parts of the country one after the other, until, with the help of Allah, he managed to found the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after 31 years of struggle, from battle to battle, achieving successive victories. His people, who realized the soundness of his approach and his noble purpose, gathered under his wise leadership and led him into victory until he accomplished unity, security, stability, love for the nation. King Abdul Aziz had strong faith in Allah, hard determination and familiarity with the requirements and ambitions of his people. He overcame an array of difficulties and laid the foundations of the young Kingdom under the banner There is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is the Messenger of Allah”.


  He started establishing the country’s administration on modern contemporary bases. He opened for his people the gates of a bright future, he executed big projects to get the rural people to settle in villages called Al-Hejar. In addition, he brought scholars, experts and teachers and has directed the activities of his people towards fruitful, work, taking into consideration the ambitions and requirements of all the people of the Kingdom.


  One primary goal for, King Abdel Aziz was to secure the Hajj roads, because in the past the pilgrims to the Holy Mosque and visitors to the Prophet’s, Mosque had been exposed to plundering and were afraid for their lives ever since. He got rid of the highway thieves, pilgrims have been performing their rituals in security and peace.


  King Abdel Aziz was very caring for the Holy places. He implemented improvements and repair works in the Holy Mosque, and extension works were done in the Prophet’s Mosque to meet the needs of the increasing number of visitors.


  King Abdel Aziz was the first Muslim leader? To call for Islamic solidarity in order to unify and achieve co-operation among Muslims for the good of the Islamic people and all of mankind. To this end, the first Islamic Conference was held in Makkah Al-Mukaramah in 1346 H (1926 G).


  In 1938 the discovery of oil in the eastern part of the Kingdom was a good omen to this young state. King Abdel Aziz invested the scare oil resources at the time in the country’s development, thereby and accelerating and supporting the creation of modern social network and infrastructure, Several projects have come to light, such as the construction of the railway that connects Riyadh with the eastern province this railway was officially inaugurated in 1371(1951 G). He also established a national aviation company (1945), broadcasting services and many for the organizations and projects that still exist in the Kingdom.


  King Abdel Aziz gave priority to spreading education in the various regions of the Kingdom, allocating scholarships for students as well as printing and distributing text books free of charge. Since 1926, he authorized the General Education Directorate to open schools and provide them with teachers and school supplies. That same year, the Saudi Science Institute was created. Many of the Saudis who have graduated from there, who have later on come to occupy important positions in the government and in private enterprises. The Admission Qualifying School was constructed to prepare the Saudi Youth for the universities of the Kingdom. In early 1950 G, the first two colleges in the country, the Islamic Law College and the College of Education were established in Makkah Al-Mukaramah in order to prepare and graduate people as judges and teachers. Many young Saudis have been sent to complete their education in a number of universities and higher institutes in Arab and Western countries in order to meet the country’s needs for professional. Beside his interest in spreading education, King Abdel Aziz built roads and hospitals as well as issued the regulations for the various affairs of the Kingdom. At the time, when King Abdel Aziz enhanced the position of the Kingdom by playing a larger role in the Arab, Islamic and International domains. For this purpose, he signed agreements and opened diplomatic relations with all countries. In 1945 the Kingdom was among the first countries that signed the United Nations’ Convention in San Francisco out of its desire to boost international understanding, co-operation and stability in the world. King Abdel Aziz took upon himself the grief of his nation and strongly defended its fair causes. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was also among of the first countries to participate in the founding of the Arab League in 1944 G. King Abdel Aziz supported the Arab countries in their struggle against foreign imperialism and influence, and he unreservedly supported the Palestinian Cause. His famous meeting with the USA President Roosevelt in 1945 and the letters exchanged with him are clear indications of the efforts exerted by King Abdel Aziz to defend the legal rights of the Palestinians and to restore their usurped lands. He has always called for the enforcement of justice so that peace may prevail in the entire world.


  Many Arab and foreign historians and writers have placed King Abdel Aziz among the great leaders of the world and have published books that talk about his outstanding character, multiple talents accomplishments.


  King Abdel Aziz died- may Allah bless his soul-on 2nd RabieThani 1373 (9.11.1953 G). His death left great grief and sadness, not only among his people but all over the world. The people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who are nowadays luxuriously enjoying the fruits of King Abdulaziz’s struggle and achievements, have vivid memories of their late King.
